What is Green cleaning?

Green cleaning is defined as a cleaning program designed with the health of building occupants, care taking staff, and the environment as a primary concern when selecting cleaning products, and determining cleaning procedures. A Green Cleaning Program is designed around products, equipment, and procedures that are chosen with the specific intent of minimizing toxicity in the environment, and minimizing the consumption of natural resources, ultimately leaving the smallest ecological footprint possible during the cleaning process

Our green cleaning program

Green Cleaning is more than the use of environmentally preferable products. It is comprehensive analysis of the unique needs of a facility and its occupants and the implementation of new green cleaning protocols and procedures.

Green cleaning aims to eliminate or reduce potentially harmful toxins and carcinogens and aims to minimize resource consumption through product substitutions and procedural changes. Green cleaning emphasizes the environmental sustainability of cleaning operations and overall building health and does not solely evaluate building cleanliness based on appearance.

Some of the methods and preventative strategies that are proving most successful include:

Microfiber cloths, entrance matting, and high filtration (HEPA) vacuums.

Microfiber cloths are made out of a special material that does not need chemicals to clean, and can be washed and reused many times. A life cycle analysis of microfiber cloths found that they are an excellent alternative to paper towels that are only used once. Another benefit of mopping with microfiber is Water reduction.

• Removing absorbent material such as carpeting from areas where moisture is present to address mold contamination.
• Installing walk off mats at all entrance to reduce soiling and wear on floor surfaces, and thus reduce the need for cleaning with harsh chemicals
• Eliminating spray applications in favour of pour and wipe products wherever possible to significantly reduce airborne contamination inside your facility.
• HEPA or high-filtration vacuums adequately contain particulate matter and maintain indoor air quality.
• Using paper products and plastic garbage bags with recycled content.
• Using fragrance-free products to reduce the impact on those sensitive to fragrances
• Purchasing waterless hand soaps in no pressurized cans that reduce exposures and do not constitute hazardous waste when disposed of.
